Services: We are happy and honored to provide care for your pet provided we feel comfortable with your pet during our get acquainted meeting.  We do NOT provide care for aggressive or dangerous pets.  If your dog is growling at us during our get acquainted meeting, we will not be able to take care of your dog in your absence.  All visits include (if requested) bringing in mail and newspapers, opening and closing blinds or curtains, turning lights on or off, watering plants, and setting out trash cans. We are happy to text you every visit or once a day, or if you prefer handwritten notes, we will do that.  Hours for visits are typically from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  The overnight wait is usually 10.5 to 11 hours. 

Shots/Vaccines:  We require that all dogs and cats in our care be vaccinated against rabies. 
 
Rates: You choose the amount of time and the type of service you want (feeding, play time, dog walk, scooping litter boxes, brushing, TLC, etc.). We do NOT charge a fee for each pet (unless you have a large number of pets) -- we simply charge for the time that we spend caring for your pets.
 
15 minute visit is $15
30 minute visit is $18 (the most popular)
45 minute visit is $25 (limited availability)
60 minute visit is $30 (limited availability)
($1 discount per visit for M-F mid-day dog visits that are pre-paid monthly.)

Holiday Charges:  $5 extra per visit on New Years Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Eve.
 
Dogs:  If you are traveling, we recommend three visits per day for dogs who are kept inside without access to a doggie door or potty pads. Expecting them to "hold it" repeatedly for 12-hour blocks of time is unkind and unhealthy in our opinion. Morning dog visits are usually 8:00-9:00 a.m. Afternoon visits are usually 2:30-5:00.  Evening/Bedtime visits are usually 8:45-10:30 p.m.  Our "regular" M-F midday dogs usually occupy our 10:00-3:00 schedule.  If you prefer 4 visits per day, we will accommodate that when we can.
 
Cats:  We offer flexibility for cat visits.  Most kitty clients ask us to come once a day.  Some request two visits per day.  It can be dangerous to skip days.  We have seen cats lock themselves in a room without food & water.  We have heard stories of cats getting tangled up in blind cords.  They are curious creatures who are capable of getting into trouble, so we highly recommend at least one visit per day.
 
Monday-Friday Mid-Day Service:  (usually 10:00-3:00) While you are at work, we can visit, walk and/or play with your dog!  This is wonderful for puppies, elderly dogs, dogs who have a lot of energy to burn, dogs kept in crates, or for pet owners who work long hours or have things to do after work.  Your dog will greatly appreciate these visits!  If you pre-schedule your visits by the month and pre-pay at the first visit of each month, we will give you $1 off each visit.  See cancellation policy below.
 
Dog Boarding --  I am sorry but we have decided to discontinue dog boarding in our home.
 
Pet Taxi:  $30 per hour (to vet, to groomer, to doggie day care). 

Outdoor Plant Watering:  We offer this service for the same rates as our pet sitting services -- based on how long we are at your home.

House Check or Plant Watering with No Pets:  We offer this service for the same rates as our pet sitting services -- based on how long we are at your home. (We will bring in mail, open/close blinds & curtains, turn lights on and off, water plants inside or outside, set out trash, check for break-ins, water leaks, etc.)  

New Clients / Initial Consultation / Meet & GreetWe are accepting new clients!  Let's talk on the phone or answer your questions via email first.  If you like what you hear, we can set up a meeting.  We require a $100 non-refundable deposit when we meet in your home.  We will deduct your pet visits from this deposit, thus making the meeting free.  There is no obligation to hire us, but we prefer we not schedule a meeting until you are fairly certain you want to hire us based on our emails, phone conversation, your review of our website and client reviews or references.  Please schedule this meeting as far in advance as possible.  Forms will be completed and signed at this time.  The meeting is only required for the first booking, and future bookings can be handled over the phone or through email.  I prefer email. If you need multiple pet visits per day, please provide two keys at our meeting (or one key and a garage door code).  If you only need one visit per day, one key will be fine.  We accept cash or checks. 
 
Key Fee:  Because garage doors can malfunction, and they do not work when electricity goes out, we require keys.  If you allow us to keep your keys, thus avoiding extra trips to return keys and/or pick up keys for future visits, there will be NO charge.  Otherwise, there is a $15 fee for each key trip.  You may drop off and pick up your keys at our home if you prefer (no charge).  Please make sure your locks & doors are in good working condition. 
 
Mess Cleanup:  There is no charge for basic and quick cleanup of ordinary messes that can be dealt with in the amount of time you scheduled us to be in your home.  We may not have time in our schedule for extensive cleaning.  We charge $30/hour if we stay longer than what you scheduled.  We rely on you to provide any cleaning supplies that you would like us to use, and we do not guarantee stain removal.  If you provide a broom and dustpan or vacuum, we will sweep around your litter boxes.
 
Cancellation Policy:  When you need to cancel, we ask that you provide as much notice as possible so we will have a chance to fill your vacated reservation.  We will be as flexible as possible.  Let’s discuss what is fair for both of us.  Our goal is to have a partnership with you whereby we take excellent care of your pets and home and you help us protect our income  0-48 hours prior to any service, payment in full may be charged depending on your circumstances and whether or not we have turned down other business. The weeks of New Year’s Day, Spring break, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas require cancellation notice of 1 week minimum to avoid a 50% charge (or more) for cancellation.  There is no refund for early returns from trips.  

If you are one of our “regular midday clients” who use our services M-F week after week and you occasionally need to cancel a visit, it is not a big deal.  If you cancel a couple of visits per month, we are not going to be upset about it.  Just let us know if you want to pay for your cancelled visit or if you want a credit for it.  We appreciate you and want you to be happy!  
 
Pet Safety:  Please keep I.D. tags on your dogs at all times, and please microchip your dogs and cats.  We suggest locks on your fence gates to prevent children (or anyone) from leaving them open, and to prevent pet theft.  Nobody expects their pet(s) to escape and run off (or to be stolen), but it happens.

Snow:  In the winter, please keep in mind that we require a safe place to park.  Snow or drifts over 4" may be too much for our cars to get through.  Please make arrangements to have your driveway shoveled or plowed, or ask a neighbor if we can park in their driveway during our visits.  If there isn't a place for us to safely park without blocking the road, we cannot visit your pet.
 
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q.  How far in advance do I need to make my reservation?
A.  As soon as you know that you will need a pet sitter, go ahead and make your reservation with us.  We take reservations on a first come, first served basis.  We take limited late night and early morning pet visits so no dog has to wait more than 10.5-11 hours to go potty and so we can get 7-8 hours of sleep ourselves.  Some weekends we are fully booked and some weekends we are not fully booked.

Q.  Can you come at 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.?
A.  No!  We need to sleep too.  We start our pet visits at 8:00 a.m. and we try to finish by 10:00-10:30 p.m.

Q.  When do you take time off?
A.  We take off some weekends and a week or longer once or twice a year.  We do our best to provide our clients with another professional, insured & bonded pet sitter who we know and trust.  We belong to Indy Area Pet Sitters Network and know quite a few great pet sitters.

Q.  What if something unexpected happens and you cannot come to my home as planned?
A.  Cathy & Mark are both full-time pet sitters and are usually able to provide back up for each other.  We also ask all of our clients to provide us with contact information for someone who can provide backup service in the event that we are unable to get to your home. In our first 7 years of pet sitting, we have not needed to cancel visits for emergencies, but we know that unexpected events can happen (i.e. car accidents, family illness or death).  Every attempt would be made to contact you and make you aware of the situation. 
 
Q.  What does insured and bonded mean?
A. Comforts of Home Pet Sitting LLC annually purchases insurance through Pet Sitters Associates, LLC and Essex Insurance Company, which provides insurance on the pets in our care, custody or control and on the client's home for acts of pet sitter negligence.  Bond coverage provides protection to the home owner from theft by the pet sitter.  Ask to see our criminal background check as well as our insurance documents.
 
Q.  Do you visit at the exact time that I request?
A.  We cannot guarantee exact times.  However, we will do our best to visit reasonably close to the times you request. We will ask you for a "time window".
 
Q.  Should I contact you to let you know when I am back home from a trip?
A.  Yes, please do!!!  We would really appreciate that!  A simple text, email or phone call would be great!  We like to know that you made it home safely.
 
Q.  Regarding dog walks, what if the weather is particularly nasty?
A.  Please express your wishes when scheduling service.  We will pay attention to whether or not your pet seems bothered by the weather.  If we feel that it is too cold, too hot, too rainy or too much snow, then we will entertain your dog inside your home instead of making both of us feel miserable outside.  We would not want to endanger your dog with heat stress or frostbite, and they probably would not like a total drenching.  Of course, your dog will go outside long enough for a potty break.  We have adequate clothing to protect ourselves even in the nastiest weather.
 
Q.  What if the weather is so bad that you cannot drive to my house?
A.  We strongly recommend that you provide us with contact information for someone living nearby who can reach your home in the event that we are unable to get to your home because of impassible roads (snow, flood water, icy hills).  We will get to your house as soon as we safely can.  We require a safe place to park.  Please make arrangements to have snow cleared from your driveway before you leave town unless there is plenty of room to park on the street.
 
Q.  When do I pay you and what forms of payment do you accept?
A.  Cash or Check.  If you are a new client, we collect a $100 non-refundable deposit at our get acquainted meeting.  Your pet visits will be deducted from that deposit, thus making the meeting free.  The remaining charge for your first reservation is due when we come for our first pet visit.  We require established clients to leave payment in full for pick up at our first pet visit for all reservations.  For holidays and spring break, we may require a 50% deposit to hold your reservation. Monday-Friday daily dog visit clients may pay in advance by the week or month. $1 off each visit if pre-paying by the month.
 
Q.  Is it customary for people to tip their pet sitter?
A.  Some clients tip and some don't.  Tips are greatly appreciated when offered though (smile)!!!
 
Q.  What is the best way to contact you? 
A.  I prefer reservations be made by email.  Since I can reply to emails late at night, it is often quicker than playing phone tag.  And email creates a written permanent record that I can easily refer to and print out.  If you need to reach me asap, then call or text.  I prefer to answer phone calls when I am in a position to write down notes, so I may need to call you back.
